Artist Statement

Through the Layers is a visual record of my personal transformation. The process it took to purposefully unravel and reweave myself. Each piece in this show was created during a season of profound change–as I moved through grief, reflection, and ultimately into a place of renewal and endless possibilities.

Using natural inks I made by hand, I worked to explore what it means to shed layers that no longer serve us and to welcome those that bring us closer to our most authentic selves. The act of creating these pieces became a process of healing. Working with the ink began to transmute the pain and grief in my body into something beautiful. Every piece was a conversation or meditation with a single song, grounding me, making me present.

This body of work doesn’t just speak to pain or loss–but the sacred work of returning to yourself. It’s about acceptance and discovery. It holds the energy of healing, the quiet revelations that come in moments of solitude, and the joy that can surprise you when you open your heart again. Through this work I realized that it is never too late to find yourself again–to reconnect with the person you once were, who you loved, and to allow them to grow.

A note to the audience: My creation is only the beginning. You bring your own experiences and perspectives, completing the process in your own way.

I invite you to experience the pieces with the music they were created to. Scan the QR code on the label of each piece for the full sonic experience.
